πŸ‡¬πŸ‡± Hands Off Greenland

Make Your Voice Heard

US residents - you can make a difference!

The rhetoric from President Trump about acquiring Greenland continues to increase in frequency and in the provocative nature of what Trump is proposing. His words and actions threaten decades of diplomatic relations and disregard the wishes of an entire population. If the US takes the approach that size and strength give a country the right to impose their demands on others, we have lost our moral compass as a country. We have a responsibility to let our elected officials know: this is not what we stand for.

Why This Matters

President Trump's repeated calls to acquire or "take over" Greenland are unreasonable, put us at odds with longtime allies, and are fundamentally in opposition to American values of self-determination and international cooperation which have brought stability in the post-WW2 era.

🌍

Greenland Has Already Decided

Greenland is a self-governing territory of Denmark with its own democratically elected parliament. A 2025 poll by the Verian group found that only 6% of Greenlanders said they would like to leave the Danish Realm and join the US.

Denmark Is a NATO Ally

Denmark has been a NATO ally since 1949, standing with the United States in conflicts from Afghanistan to the fight against terrorism. 43 Danish soldiers were killed in Afghanistanβ€”the highest per capita death rate of any NATO member. Attempting to take over territory from an ally with the threat of doing it by force is reprehensible and sows doubt among all allies that the US is a trustworthy partner.

We Already Have Strategic Access

The U.S. already maintains Thule Air Base (now Pituffik Space Base) in Greenland through a 1951 defense agreement with Denmark. If Greenland is key to US national security and requires increased US military presence, cooperation with NATO allies is a much more legitimate route than attempting to take territory by threat or force.

International Law Matters

The post-WW2 era started with the US recognizing the importance of international cooperation. The UN Charter (1945) prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity of states. Attempting to acquire territory against the will of its people sets a dangerous precedent and weakens America's moral authority, opening the door for Russia and China to pursue similar ventures against smaller neighbors.
